Washington State Veteran and Military Resources

The Washington State Attorney General’s Office provides Veteran and Military Resources in addition to a Military and Veteran Legal Resource Guide. This is part of the Attorney General’s broader initiative to help veterans and service members learn what rights and benefits are available to them, and help them navigate through the various channels to obtain those benefits.

Local Community Veteran Support Services

Catholic Community Services of Western Washington

Catholic Community Services provides equal access to programs and services to all individuals, including veterans, and does not discriminate based on the nature of the discharge. For information, call (206) 328-5696 or email ccskingcountyinfo@ccsww.org.

Hope Link

Hope Link provides integrated social services in north and east King County, including transportation assistance. For information, call (425) 869-6000 or email hopelink@hope-link.org.

King County Veterans Services

The primary purpose of the King County Veterans Program is to increase living stability for veterans and their families. This includes help with a variety of support services and referrals to community partners when needed. For information, call (206) 296-7656.

Lions Project New Hope (LPNH)

LPNH provides free weekend retreats for combat veterans and their families at Elbow Lake in north Thurston County. Workshops and counseling sessions are among the offerings, with childcare, recreational activities, and meals at no cost. Advance registration is required.

Pierce County Veterans Bureau

The Pierce County Veterans Bureau provides emergency assistance with food, rent and utilities to qualified indigent veterans and family members. Some assistance with medical needs on an emergency basis too. For information, call (253) 798-2929.

South Sound Outreach

Referrals and assistance on a variety of issues, including housing, tax preparation, and legal needs. Locations are throughout Pierce and Kitsap counties. Staff members are trained to work with veterans. The main office can be reached at (253) 593-2111.

Valley Cities Counseling

Mental health treatment center offers its services free to Veterans. Call Valley Cities Counseling at (866) 326-5520 to schedule new client intake for Veterans services or call Josh Wheeldon at (253) 335-3749. Services include:

Veterans Crisis Line – 24 hours a day/7 days a week

The Veterans Crisis Line connects Veterans in crisis and their families and friends with trained, caring professionals. Many are Veterans themselves. Confidential help is available by phone, online chat, or texting. Call 1-800-273-8255 and press 1, or visit the website for more options.

Dedicated to the legacy of servicewomen, veterans, and their families. Emphasizes community service and philanthropy.

Women Veterans Network – WoVeN

Community of women veterans spanning all ages, services, ranks, experiences, and geographies, with the common goal of social support and camaraderie.

Service Women’s Action Network

Personal support and guidance to women service members and veterans from fellow women veterans. Also provides pro bono legal referrals.

Grace After Fire

Women veterans and clinical providers specializing in trauma issues, mental health, and substance abuse of women who have served.

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)

Verify Your Enrollment

Verify your monthly enrollment with the VA. The VA requires that you verify your attendance on the last day of every month to get paid. This applies to students using the 1606 benefit.

Military Benefits

Northwest Justice Project

Legal assistance and representation to low-income people facing barriers to housing, employment, and other issues affecting self-sufficiency. The Veterans Project is specifically for the needs of veterans. Their attorneys are trained to follow this guide when interacting with their veteran clients; it includes a detailed section on local resources of value to veterans. King County Bar Association Pro Bono Services (KCBA)

The KCBA works with over 1,500 volunteer attorneys, paralegals, and law students to provide free legal services to low-income King County residents. Visit King County Bar Association Pro Bono Services to start the intake and approval process. If you want to hire an attorney at your own expense, you may do so through the Lawyer Referral Service.

Pierce County Bar Association
